How many first aid personnel do I need?
This is dependent on the number of employees your business has and the risk level (low-risk/medium to high risk) of the environment you operate within.
First Aid personnel for low-risk environments
These are environments where workers are not exposed to hazards, such as
Office
Libraries
Shops
For low-risk environments this table can act as a guide.
No. of companies | Number of first aid personnel (minimum) |
Fewer than 25 | 1 Appointed person |
24 to 50 | 1 EFAW trained first aider |
50+ | 1 FAW trained first aider per 100 people (or part thereof) |
It’s important to note that this only to be used a guide and is not a recommendation. In low-risk environments, the risk level increases as the number of employees increase. A thorough risk assessment should be conducted to evaluate the individual need of your business.
First Aid personnel for mediumto high-risk environments
The HSE recommends higher numbers of first aid personnel for more hazardous workplaces. Such as:
Forestry
Agriculture
Construction
Catering
Engineering
For medium to high-risk environments this table can act as a guide.
No. of companies | Number of first aid personnel (minimum) |
Fewer than 25 | 1 Appointed person |
24 to 50 | 1 EFAW trained first aider or 1 FAW trained first aider, depending on the types of injuriesthat may occur |
50+ | 1 FAW trained first aider per 100 people (or part thereof) |
Our First Aid course covers essential life-saving skills such as CPR, treating burns, managing heavy bleeding, and responding to common warehouse injuries like fractures and sprains. Both our basic and advanced level first aid courses will equip your warehouse operators with the training required to ensure they are prepared for any onsite medical emergencies.
Warehouse environments can pose significant safety risks, from heavy machinery to manual handling injuries. Having employees trained in first aid doesn’t just ensure quick response to accidents, it fosters a culture of safety, making employees more aware of the potential risks, reducing downtime and improving workplace safety.
The course is delivered in a comprehensive one-day session, with practical exercises tailored to common warehouse hazards. This format ensures minimal disruption to your operations while equipping staff with critical first aid skills.
Yes, upon successfully completing the course, all participants will receive an accredited first aid certification. This ensures your warehouse complies with legal requirements and that trained staff are available in case of emergencies.
It is recommended that warehouse staff renew their first aid certification every three years to ensure they are up to date with the latest safety protocols and emergency response techniques.
