5-hour Intensive Training: Covering all the essential aspects of charging, driving, and loading AFVs.
AFVs are classed as any vehicle that runs on a fuel source other than diesel or petrol. The current most popular choices are Hydrogen fuel cell, electric battery powered, natural gas, or biogas. As the transport industry moves towards greener solutions, the demand for skilled drivers trained in Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) is on the rise.
Our AFV training certification is tailored to provide drivers with an in-depth understanding of the various types of alternative fuels, including hydrogen, electricity, natural gas, and biogas products.
Our in-depth AFV course covers the unique characteristics and operational requirements of each fuel type, ensuring that drivers are fully prepared and legally permitted to handle AFVs out in the real world.
At HGVC, we offer a intensive, 5-hour, AFV training course that’s designed to equip category B licence holders with the knowledge and skills needed to operate zero emission vehicles weighing up to 4.25t legally, safely and efficiently.
The HGVC AFV training course follows the Department for Transport (DfT) syllabus and includes:

Yes. Our 5-hour, AFV Training Course is run by NRI Registered LGV instructors and follows the DfT syllabus. After successful completion of this course, each driver will receive a certificate, issued by the NRI. The AFV Training certificates are dispatched within 15 working days of the NRI receiving the records. The certificate can then be used by third parties (such as insurance companies, employers or the Police) to check that the driver has completed the training.
The course is a total of 5-hours and covers essential aspects of charging, driving, and loading AFVs.
If your company plans to operate electric vehicles over 3.5t in weight, and your drivers only hold a Cat B licence, then this training is a requirement.
C1, C, and CE licence holders do not need to undergo this training, and there is currently no requirement for Driver CPC.
Upon completion of the training, attendees receive a certificate of attendance. This certificate allows them to drive 4.25-tonne AFVs.
The AFV training course does not require attendees to sit an exam. Attendance of the course is verified by certification awarded at the end of the 5-hour training session.
