Metro Rod

How Metro Rod Uses HGVC to Meet Business Targets.

Metro Rod

“We required our engineers to be HGV trained quickly, and the team at HGVC were brilliant from start to finish. They made the whole process smooth and easy, from enquiring and booking, to supporting our engineers through the practical and theory elements. They displayed excellent communication throughout and brilliant support along the journey. We were always kept up to date with the next steps and had full visibility of where candidates were on their training journey and when we could get them started on our own internal training.”

Introduction

Metro Rod has been leading the way in drainage solutions for over 40 years with more than forty regional drain cleaning service centres across the country.

Situation

Metro Rod have an ongoing requirement to upskill employees to drive their commercial vehicles within financial budgets. With busy day-jobs and a need for constant training, a fully-managed service with robust reporting on training progress was needed.

Challenge
  • Meto Rod was experiencing a shortage of HGV drivers for their day-to-day operations, causing challenges in managing services for the Group’s activities.
  • With a shortage of drivers, there was increased pressure on existing staff to manage essential services.
  • Prior to working with HGVC, driver training was rarely completed in a timely manner, causing delays to service provision.
  • With franchises across the country, employees were being trained by different providers, with mixed results in terms of pass rates, costs and timescales.
Solution
  • Metro Rod contracted HGVC to provide Category C training via the subsidised HGV Skills Bootcamp scheme.
  • The opportunity was promoted to centre managers throughout the business in order to leverage the funding on offer and maximise uptake.
  • HGVC provided a fully managed, hassle-free service, enabling full visibility of candidate training progress, with regular catch ups and clear communication between stakeholders at all times.
Results
  • 14 employees have been trained so far to a Category C licence.
  • The business has saved over £50,000 on training costs to date.
  • Upskilling employees improved service capability, enhancing flexibility during peak demand.
  • The organisation’s use of the HGV Skills Bootcamp scheme ensures a cost-effective approach to professional improvement for Metro Rod employees and enables them to meet their business growth targets.
